Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do)

#1 & 10 are pet peeves of mine. #1 not so much in others, but in myself. I find I have to re-read what I've written several times to fix this and even then the result sounds a bit awkward to me. As for #2, it seems to me these days people are trying drive the comma out of existence. I kind of disagree with #8 though. Honestly, I find writers tend to do the opposite more so than this. It's one of the things I disliked about The Lord of the Rings books. Tolkien may be a good story-spinner but he could have written the books with half the words.
