dia dhuit (hello)

Found this while I was looking up how to say "Cheers" in Irish Gaelic: Irish Gaelic Translator. Some examples:

How are you? -> Conas atá tú?
Thank you -> Go raibh maith agat
Goodbye and blessings with you -> Slán agus beannacht leat
Kiss my ass! -> Póg mo thóin!

I really have to remember that last one. ;o)

You've heard of the Pogues? they were originally called Póg mo thóin, but none of the radio stations could say their name, so they shorterned it to the pogues to be able to get airplay.
I'm quite familiar with them actually. I bought their "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" tape towards the end of my senior year in high school (1987) and nearly wore out that tape. I was really disappointed when Shane MacGowan left because I really dug his voice. The band wasn't the same after that. Not bad, but not what it was.
They're reformed! They did a bunch of gigs last year.... although I don't know if they're going to make any new music or not.
