I should really RTFMs

I was going through the drawer in my filing cabinet where I keep my owner's manuals and came across the one for my MP3 player which I hadn't read since I had gotten it for Xmas. Finally doing so I came across this on page 5:

WARNING: The cord(s) included with this product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

First off, what's with the "may contain"? Either it does or it doesn't and they damn well should know one way or another. Secondly, I'm not having kids so the repro harm is moot but the cancer risk I can do without thank you very much. I already had one surgery this year to remove a lump. Thirdly, I find it odd, and a bit annoying, knowing now I have to wash my hands every time I upload music to my player because of the USB cord.
